Which Xbox Games With Gold games are free in May?

By  |

May the Force be with you when you peruse May’s selection of games available via Xbox Games with Gold. That’s right – it’s Star Wars time, and you can scoop up The Force Unleashed 2 and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for free (with an Xbox Live Gold membership). Not into space-wizards with laser swords? Take on platforming challenges with Giana Sisters or explore the catacombs with Lara Croft.

Remember: any games you choose to download during their availability period will remain accessible so long as you have an active Xbox Live Gold membership. And don’t forget too that any Xbox 360 games made available through Games With Gold are also backwards compatible with Xbox One.

May 2017 free Games With Gold games

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Director’s Cut (Xbox One) – Available: May 1 – 31
Fun fact: there’s an urban legend that Nintendo levied a lawsuit at developer Time Warp Productions over the first Giana Sisters game, claiming it to be copyright infringement on Super Mario Bros. Such a lawsuit never actually happened, though The Great Giana Sisters was pretty much a blatant copy. Even so, the series has now grown into its own, distinct property, and those who enjoy hardcore platforming challenge should find plenty to love here.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (Xbox One) – Available: May 16 – June 15
What does Lara Croft do when she’s not raiding a tomb? Why, she raids a different tomb of course, but this time with friends. A top-down, co-op twist on the Tomb Raider mythos, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is basically what happens when Tomb Raider meets Diablo. And it’s way better than you think.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 (Xbox 360) – Available: May 1 – 15
Look, I’m not gonna lie to you; The Force Unleashed 2 is not a widely beloved game. But even so, there’s no other Star Wars game that gives you such absurd amounts of power to play with. And besides, it’s always fun to send a Stormtrooper hurtling through the air.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Xbox 360) – Available: May 16 – 31
You might think Legos are for kids, but the beauty of Lego Star Wars is that it’s just as fun if you’re an adult who grew up with the franchise or a young newcomer. They’re bright, colorful, and inoffensive, and The Complete Saga lets you experience the whole tale. And hey, the Lego Star Wars games even manage the impossible task of making Jar-Jar bearable (mostly by letting us smash him to smithereens over and over again).
