Do you find yourself craving a Starbucks Frappuccino every now and again? Theres no denying that these cool icy drinks are delicious on a summer day, but are they really worth it? Coming in at $5 or $6, these drinks are a pretty pricy treat, and with roughly 200 calories, they arent exactly healthy.

After finding out some of the things that are used to make Frappuccinos at Starbucks (see below), one food blogger had had enough. Known as Food Babe, this blogger decided to try to recreate the taste of a Frappuccino on her own, without the cost or the synthetic ingredients.

Check out her recipe here! It tastes great, and with only 5 ingredients, you can be sure that its good for you. Go ahead and play around with this recipe, and play with flavour combinations to find the one that best matches your favourite Starbucks Frappuccino. Let us know in comments what you try!

But whats really in a Frappuccino?

Ever wonder whats actually in a real Starbucks Frappuccino? So did Food Babe. She went on the hunt to figure out why Starbucks wouldnt release their ingredient list, and what they were hiding.

After repeated attempts, she finally got her hands on their ingredients list, and was shocked at what she found. Take the ingredient list for Starbucks Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino thats listed below. Compared to Food Babes 5 ingredient Frappuccino, this one has a staggering 15 ingredients, and most of them are not natural products.

In fact, not only are these ingredients not natural, they are dangerous. The caramel sauce and sugar that Starbucks uses isnt the type of caramel you can make at home by cooking sugar. This caramel is created by heating ammonia and sulfites under high pressure, which is a process that creates carcinogenic compounds. These caramels have been responsible for tumors in the lungs, liver and thyroid, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest actually released a statement in 2012 concluding that dangerous levels of caramel colouring could be contributed to a rise of cancer patients in the U.S.

There probably isnt much doubt that the things you find in Frappuccinos are ingredients that are better to stay away from. Not only will you be saving money, you might just be saving your life.
