10 – Chick-Fil-A Gets Homophobic
For fast-food joints, a customer is a customer. Provided that they are not buck of their heads, they’re welcome to stuff their faces with oily deliciousness. A fast-food restaurant is a neutral zone– sexual orientation or political views seldom play a part.
If you don’t go to a Chick-Fil-A. Many view the only action of eating there as a political statement today.
In June 2012, it was disclosed the chicken sandwich chain had made substantial contributions to organizations that opposed the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community. The CEO of Chick Fil A subsequently formed several statements that made it clear that he (and, by extension, his business) was very much against same-sex marriages. This caused boycott and an immediate indignation from the LGBT people. This, subsequently, caused a backlash from conservatives, who went as far as devising a Chick Fil A Appreciation Day to commend the political position of the eatery.
The business shortly said they would leave politicians political dialogues and afterwards stopped all contributions to anti-LGBT organizations. Yet the scandal has made its mark. To this very day, few pro-LGBT individuals should they’ve some other alternatives frequent the restaurant.
